The Marathon du Medoc is not just an ordinary Marathon for many reasons.  Set in the stunning Bordeaux region of France it meanders through ancient villages, vibrant vineyards and along gravel tracks.  If this were not enough you get to run past some of the most famous Wine makers in the region (if not the world).  There would not be many wine drinkers anywhere in the world who have not heard of Chateau Lafite Rothschild or Chateau Mouton Rothschild and these are just two of the 59 vineyards along the course.

Almost 3/4 of the participants wear fancy dress (it is not unusual to be overtaken by groups of running clowns, escaped convicts or male ballerinas), the aid stations allow for wine and cheese tasting as well as the more customary forms of Marathon fare and most of the prizes are in Wine.

Those not running are catered for too, with various shows and entertainment in the harbour area along the quays. The Marathon village near the wine-culture-centre "Maison du Vin" is also open the whole day and offers entertainment, regional specialities and restoration facilities. In the evening the village of Pauillac puts on a Fireworks display to cap off a memorable day.

Put simply, this is one of the world's great parties with a Marathon thrown in for good measure.

In order to secure your package to the Marathon du Medoc a non-refundable deposit of AU$400 per person is required.

ENTRY FEES

The entry fee for the Marathon du Medoc is included in the price of your package.

In accordance with French law all runners are required to produce proof of their fitness to participate in running competitions in the form of a medical certificate issued by a doctor following a medical examination.

QUALIFYING TIMES

There are no qualifying times for this event but all entrants must be born prior to 11th September 1990 to enter the race.

START TIME

The Marathon du Medoc starts at 9:30am.

CUT-OFF TIMES

There is a 6h30m cut-off time for the Marathon du Medoc.

RACE TIMING

Time keeping will be done by an electronic chip embedded in your running bib

RACE PACKETS

Numbers will be distributed at the Cosec on Friday, 10th September between 10 am. and 9 pm. and Saturday 11th September between 7 and 8 a.m.

PACE SETTERS

There are no pace setters at the Marathon du Medoc

AID STATIONS

There will be 22 aid and sponge stations along the course, as well as 23 wine tasting stands, 52 special events and also various food points (oysters, entrecote steak, cheese and other delicacies)

Medical assistance will be provided in 15 First Aid tents as well as by 5 mobile first aid units.

All transportation to and from the various events will be included as part of  your package

EXPO

There will be an Expo held on Friday 10th September at the COSEC in Pauillac

FINISHERS T-SHIRTS, MEDALS AND CERTIFICATES

All finishers will receive a bottle of wine on completion of the Marathon, as well as a medal, sports bag and numerous other gifts

The average September temperature in Medoc is 18 degrees Celsius (64 degrees Fahrenheit)
