The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world's most prestigious road racing events. The historic course is a point to point event starting on Main Street in the rural New England town of Hopkinton and follows Route 135 through Ashland (the original 1897 starting point) Framingham, Natick, and Wellesley, and then on to Boston.

The entry fee for the Boston Marathon is US$125. (see Packages for more information as to total costs).
The deadline for entering the Boston Marathon is 01 March 2008 or when the field size limit of 20,000 is reached.
Entrants must have run a qualifying time between 21 September 2007 and 01 March 2008 at a certified marathon (26.2 miles or 42.195 kms) in order to participate in the 2008 race. Proof of qualification must accompany the application. Participants must be 18 years or older on race day. Your age on 16 April 2008 determines which age category you are in.

The traditional race start time for this event is 12:00pm (Midday).
Corrals are assigned based on bib numbers. The first digit of your bib number (first two digits if your number is over 10,000) indicates your assigned corral. The first corral is located immediately after the elite starting corral. Bib number assignment is based on qualifying times. General numbering begins with bib number 1001.
The Boston Marathon has a 6 hour cut-off limit.
The Boston Marathon uses the ChampionChip computer timing system. Digital clocks displaying elapsed time are located at every mile and also at five-kilometre markers.
A listing of accepted entrants will be available on the official Boston Marathon website beginning in mid October.
In early April, accepted applicants will receive, via first class mail, an official Number Pick-Up card and extensive information regarding the B.A.A. Boston Marathon and related race week activities.
Note: Bib numbers will not be distributed on race day and must be picked up at the World Trade Centre in South Boston prior to 6pm Sunday 16 April 2006.
There are no pace setters for this event
The course has 24 drink stations and 26 first aid station.
Belmont Springs Water and Gatorade Sports Drink (lemon/lime flavour) are the official fluids provided approximately every mile along the course as well as the start and the finish areas.
Port-a-johns will be located at each fluid and each first aid station. Stations are every mile beginning at mile two.
A PowerGel station is located at mile 17.
The ONLY guaranteed way to get to the start on race morning is by the official B.A.A. buses between 6:30 am. and 8:30 a.m. Bus loading will take place at the Tremont Street side of the Boston Common in Boston’s Back Bay area. Each runner MUST show his/her bib number upon boarding.
Warm up clothing may be checked onto buses that will bring your baggage to the finish in Boston. Affix the baggage label provided to you in your race packet to the plastic bag you received at packet pick-up and give it to the attendant at the appropriate baggage bus on your way to the start area. Buses will be clearly marked according to your bib number.
All entrants receive admission to the pre-race pasta party and post-race party, race program and results booklet and a long-sleeve T-shirt.
Finishers also receive a commemorative medallion.
The John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo and Number Pick Up will be held at the Hynes Memorial Convention Center in Boston , on Friday, April 11 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. , and Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please note that bib numbers will NOT be distributed on race day.
Your travel arrangements should take into account picking up your number by 6pm on April 13 .
The average April temperature in Boston is 9°C (48°F) although the temperature at the race start (Hopkinton) is normally between 13°C (55°F) and 23°C (75°F).
