THE COURSE

The Great Wall Marathon is not just a race, it is a moment in your life that will live with you forever. Running part of the race on one of the world's most famous landmarks leaves a lasting impression that does not diminish, and the friends you meet along the way will share a common bond that few get to experience.

The course can be divided into two sections:

The first section, covering approximately 9 km, takes the runners up to, across and down the Great Wall of China. This part of the course is marked by steep ascents and descents of up to 10% and consists of approximately 1800 steps. Runners are advised to run slowly going up and down the mountain, as well as to walk when passing the steepest parts of the Great Wall.

Full Marathoners will complete this section of the course twice, whereas half Marathoners will only pass it once.

The second section of the course, which takes the runners through picturesque villages and rice fields, is done on flat asphalt and gravel roads. All roads are in good condition and do not require special footwear. Full marathoners should be aware that there is a long ascent when going towards the turning point. This ascent may seem easy compared to the road leading to the Great Wall section, but after running approximately 21km it may come as an unpleasant surprise.

Deposits:
In order to secure your package to the Great Wall Marathon a non-refundable deposit of AU$550 per person is required.

Deadlines:
Bookings made on or after 17 March 2008 will incur a AU$120 late-booking fee
No bookings will be accepted on/after 17 April 2008

RACE INFORMATION

ENTRY FEES
The entry fee for the Great Wall Half-Marathon is incorporated into the price of the package you choose and cannot be purchased independently.

QUALIFYING TIMES
There are no qualifying times for the Great Wall Marathon.

START TIME
The Great Wall of China Marathon starts at 7:30am. Please note that those runners that are staying in Beijing will need to check with their tour guide as to specific wake up times in order to ensure that they do not miss their bus to the start.

CUT-OFF TIMES
The Great Wall Marathon must be completed in 8 hours. To ensure that nobody is left struggling along the Great Wall there will be a 6½ hour cut-off at the 32km point where runners re-enter the Great Wall section of the course.

RACE TIMING
The Great Wall Marathon will be timed using ChampionChip technology to ensure that all finishers are accurately timed.

RACE PACKETS
T-Shirts and Race information (including race numbers and you Great Wall of China personalised ChampionChip) will be handed out to you by your tour guide once you reach your hotel.

PACE SETTERS
There are no pace setters in this event.

AID STATIONS
There will be a drink station approximately every 2.5 km serving bottled water. Electrolyte drinks and bananas will be served at selected drink stations. For runners with other nutritional requirements (such as special drinks), personal provisions can be placed at selected drink stations.

PERSONAL REFRESHMENTS AND CLOTHING
Personal refreshments can be left at certain aid stations along the course, although due to logistical reasons no personal drinks can be left at the aid stations along the Great Wall itself.

TRANSPORT
Transport to the Great Wall and from the Great wall is provided as part of your overall package.

FINISHERS T-SHIRTS, MEDALS AND CERTIFICATES
All finishers will receive a Medal as they cross the finish line, and Certificates will be mailed to each finisher after the conclusion of the event.

WEATHER CONDITIONS
The average May temperature in Beijing is between 14°C-27°C (56°F-80°F)
