The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world's most prestigious road racing events.

The historic course is a point to point event starting on Main Street in the rural New England town of Hopkinton and follows Route 135 through Ashland (the original 1897 starting point) Framingham, Natick, and Wellesley, and then on to Boston.

2008 is an “UP” run starting at sea level in the centre of the harbour city of Durban, and finishes in Pietermaritzburg. The distance is approximately 89kms.
