
After working for a decade in the Hospitality industry, Michael decided that a change of career was about due which saw him undertake an IT diploma for 2 ½ years.
Upon graduating, Michael went to work for Consolidated Travel, one of Australia’s leading Travel consolidators, where he was actively involved in the design and implementation of many of their internal IT applications. After several years at Consolidated Travel, Michael left to work in the IT department at Traveland, and from there worked for a large IT consulting firm He then worked in the banking, finance and legal sectors before joining Travelling Fit permanently in 2009.
He has been actively involved with Travelling Fit right from its inception as he has been married to its founder, Mari-Mar Walton, since 2001. His responsibilities have included the development of the Travelling Fit website, the Travelling Fit eNewsletters and all aspects of the company’s IT.
More recently, Michael has also focused more on the Business Development of Travelling Fit and he is actively involved in enhancing the ability of Travelling Fit to provide better and better service to their customers.
One of Michael’s primary roles as Business Development Manager is the overseeing, together with Mari-Mar Walton, of Travelling Fit Events. This side of the Travelling Fit business is responsible for the development of new and unique running events within Australia, including the Australian Outback Marathon and the Solar Eclipse Marathon.
In his spare time, Michael runs Marathons and is well on his way to becoming a member of the “Seven Continents Club”, with only Africa, South America and Antarctica left. He also spends a great deal of his free time “running” after their children Emma and Henry, who ensure that keeping still is never an option. Most recently, Michael completed the Tokyo Marathon, the third of his Marathon Majors behind London and New York.
