Mari-Mar Walton has always had a passion for travelling, and she has made the travel industry her career for all of her working life.
After completing her Travel qualifications, Mari-Mar joined the Jetset travel group, where she learnt about the travel industry from the ground up. Starting as a Fares consultant, she quickly moved to become the Senior Groups and Fares Coordinator. After taking a year off to work at the 1992 Seville Universal Expo and the Barcelona Olympics in Spain, she returned to Australia and took on the role as National fares Coordinator for one of the largest travel consolidators in the country.
Mari-Mar is a keen runner, completing her first Marathon in Sydney in 1996, and since that time she has completed over 40 marathons in such diverse places as China, Northern India, Cuba, Greece, Iceland and Greenland to name but a few. In 2019 Mari-Mar completed her 6th Abbott World Marathon Majors in Boston, starting in 2007 in New York City, followed by London, Tokyo, Berlin, and Chicago Marathons. Mari-Mar has also participated in over 20 Ultra Marathon events, including seven Marathon des Sables (240km stage race) across the Moroccan Sahara Desert, five OxfamTrailwalker team events (100kms) in Australia, three Comrades Marathons (89kms) in South Africa, and the 90km du Mont Blanc in France.
One of Mari-Mar’s passions was to create an iconic marathon in Australia, and where else better than in the heart of the country. After many years of hard work to get it off the ground, the Australian Outback Marathon in Uluru was created in 2010, and continues to attract runners from around the globe.
Mari-Mar’s husband Michael is very supportive in all she does and is also involved in the business. They have two beautiful teenage children, Emma and Henry, who are very active and also enjoy running. Mari-Mar continues to travel and to “run the world” with her family and for work.
