The Course

Join 50,000+ other marathoners and over 1 million spectators at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors marathon series. Since its inception in 1974, the course has been moved from the Grunewald, a large forest in West Berlin, to the city centre of West Berlin, to the current course which winds through both parts of the Berlin capital

The course takes you along the most scenic sites of Berlin, such as the Reichstag, the Siegessäule, Berliner Dom, Brandenburg, and Potsdamer Platz. The marathon course takes you through almost the entire city and has only a few turns. The finish of the Berlin Marathon runs through the historic Brandenburger Gate.

The course is home to a host of World Records, and has a total elevation gain of just 73M (241 feet), whilst the elevation loss is 79m (260 feet).

In order to guarantee timekeeping, the TAG / transponder must not be bent.

Race Packets

Electronic registration confirmations will be mailed to participants at the start of September irrespective of when the registration form was received.

Each participant will need to take the confirmation card along with passport or Photo ID to pick up their race bib, clothing bag and other goodies from the Expo.

All race bibs must be personally collected and it is not possible for a third party to collect it on the participants behalf.

Please note: Race numbers which are not picked up during the expo-opening hours will expire without refund. There will be no other possibility to pick them up.

You must deliver your container (no glass!) marked with your name, bib number and refreshment point no later than 7.45 am to the “Personal Refreshment Stand” on the day of the event.

Clothing Drop-off

Clothing drop-off is only possible for those participants who have booked the “clothing drop-off” when registering and have received a clothing bag and label with their bib number at the race material pick up. All others will receive a warm poncho at the finish (recognizable by a corresponding symbol on the bib number).

Clothing Donation

On race day, you can stay warm in the pre-start zone with your hoodies, training jackets etc. and then donate them on site. Place the items over the bars or throw them into the marked containers.

IMPORTANT: The collection only takes place at the starting corals – please do not take off your clothing layers before reaching the corrals.

Poncho Option

If you booked a poncho when you registered for the race, you will receive one after you cross the finish line. Your bib number and the handout points are marked with a diagram of the poncho.

Please note that if the poncho option is chosen it is not possible to drop off personal clothes.

Please Note:

  • The choice between poncho and clothing drop-off is binding and cannot be changed after completing the registration!
  • Hydration backpacks with max. 3 litres capacity are permitted – for the purpose of fluids only. These will be checked by officials.
  • Abandoned items, other than clothing, within the start/finish area will be disposed of.
